Legislation Fact Sheet
Landfill Directive The bulk of the EC Landfill Directive came into force in the UK in June 2002. It was designed to: Increase waste recycling and recovery Reduce potentially polluting emissions from landfill (rubbish dumps) The directive has to be fully implemented by July 2009. The most recent implementation was in October 2007 relating to the ban of untreated wastes and liquid waste. What does it mean? As a business you have a responsibility when disposing of waste. New rules from October 2007 mean that landfills can no longer accept ‘untreated waste’. One of the ways for it to qualify as ‘treated waste’ is to sort it, sometimes referred to as ‘source-segregation’. Comply with Legislation; Save Money Business waste now has to be pre-treated to minimise the amount of materials sent to landfill sites. Landfill Taxes will dramatically increase over the next two years to £40 per tonne! Now is a good time to contact us at Green-A-Way to review traditional methods of waste disposal and adopt more efficient and environmentally-friendly practices. Doing so will save your business money. Let Green-A-Way can guide your business Please telephone: 01895 905715 for further advice or email advice@green-a-way.co.uk
