Most of us recycle at home, so why doesn’t the same happen in the work place?


Landfill Gas

Wherever biodegradable material is deposited in landfill sites it will generate gas. Under optimum conditions, one tonne of waste can produce up to 200 cubic metres of gas, with methane (about 60%) and carbon dioxide (about 35%) being the major constituents.

Methane is flammable and can be an asphyxiant to humans. It is also a greenhouse gas that is considered to be twenty times more powerful than carbon dioxide.

  • The energy saved from recycling 1 glass bottle is enough to power a lightbulb for four hours.
